What items (e.g., books, personal hygiene products) are youth able to bring into the facility when they enter Genesis?
Personal items are restricted to socks, underwear, deodorant, and toothbrush/toothpaste. Books are acceptable but must be left at the facility when the youth leaves.
What role do advocates have for youth and parents?
Advocates work directly with youth for support and guidance. They share information about the youth’s progress with the youth, parents, and probation officer/case manager. They also coordinate home, medical, dental, and court visits.
When are visiting hours and who can visit?
Parents or legal guardians are able to visit. Youth are able to visit the second Sunday after arriving. All visits are on Sunday and hours vary with sections. Check with your advocate for best times.
Can youth call their parents/legal guardians?
Youth are allowed a 5-minute phone call after their initial intake at arrival. Beyond that, each section varies. Check with your advocate for the best information.
Can a youth have a home visit?
Home visits are a privilege and are granted at staff discretion--they are not automatic and can be revoked depending on youth behavior. Home visits are granted after a youth has been in the program for at least 30 days. They take place on Saturday or Sunday and vary in length.
How many school credits can youth accrue?
School credits are accumulated by length of time youth are in the program. Each youth is able to earn 1/4 credit for every 36 hours they are in the classroom.
What is the general length of stay for youth at Genesis?
General length of stay is 60 days.
What programming activities are offered for youth?
A wide variety of programming is offered for youth, including: Workforce Services activities, employment education, worldwide welfare donations with the LDS church, computer software and hardware training, First Aid and CPR training, woodworking, and horticulture. Staffs also provide services such as Victim Awareness, Drug/Alcohol, Anger Management, Life Skills, and Self-esteem.
Can youth visit with their private therapist or see a family doctor while at Genesis?
Youth are able to meet with their therapist or family doctor. Parents will be responsible for providing transportation and paying for services.
What medical services are available at Genesis?

- LPN at center 40 hours per week
- Medical provider at center 6 hours per week
- Doctor on call 24/7
- Physicals
- Medication management
- Management of acute illnesses or injuries
Why doesn't Medicaid cover youth while at Genesis?
Genesis is not a treatment facility. Youth do not qualify for Medicaid.
